On Friday, February 20, at 7 p.m. at the Plaza Branch, 4801 Main St., Mad Science of Greater Kansas City presents the Fire and Ice Show.

Mad Science delivers unforgettable experiences with highly interactive educational programs. Focused on chemical reactions, the Fire and Ice Show will create foggy dry-ice storms, flashy reactions, and beach balls floating in mid air.

Great presentation about charter schools last night at the Truman Forum of the Plaza Library, specifically the Knowledge is Power Program (KIPP) system of education that started just a handful of years ago.

KIPP focuses on longer school days, teaching manners and bringing the family into the equation as part of the team that has a specific, defined goal. They prefer to say "This is the class of 2009 because that is when they will start college, not when they will graduate from high school."

The difference in striving toward a beginning instead of an end is a fantastic mind-shift. In my studies with Dr. Rapaille ("The Culture Code"), we learned a lot about creating a story that has a specific goals and rewards on a time line towards a mission.

Spiegel's "CityBall" to premiere 11/6

I saw this on KansasCity.com earlier today and it sounds pretty cool:

Metro Sports producer Stephen Spiegel tracked several Interscholastic League kids during the 2007-2008 school year. Now, Spiegel is ready to unveil his documentary entitled “CityBall,” which will premiere next Thursday free to the public at the Plaza Library at 6:30 p.m. and air for the masses on Time Warner Cable Metro Sports at 7 p.m. Nov. 12.
